Chia Seed Tea

Bulletproof coffee, or keto coffee, has really become huge for people on the keto diet.  But not everyone likes coffee or caffeine.  Some people wake up with green tea in the morning.  It's not fair that they can't have a cool keto drink to get their fat right away in the mornings!

I have to confess that I saw a guy at my office do this and thought it was strange as it could be.  But once I tried it I knew it was brilliant.

Add two tablespoons of chia seeds to your tea (once your tea is brewed and the tea bag is removed).  Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes.  The longer the chia seeds sit, the more gooey and thick they get, making your tea and pretty interesting consistency.  If you don't mind chewing on the crunchy seeds, drink it at 5 minutes.  If you want the gooey texture, wait longer than 10 minutes (but your tea will start getting cold).

Chia seeds are a great thing for the keto diet community.  Sometimes it's difficult to get Omega 3's into your diet.  It also can be hard to get fiber.  Chia seeds solve both of those problems.  At 2.2 grams of Omega 3's per 2 tablespoons, you're in good shape.  Although the Omega 3's in chia seeds are ALA, the less desirable Omega 3, it still contributes to the beneficial health effects of the other Omega 3's.

The chia seed tea for the keto diet could be compared to Japanese bubble tea.  It is also similar to those Kombucha drinks sold in stores that have the jelly consistency.
